Fencing in Action (FIA) is an industry specialist event, being run in association with AG in Action. Fencing in Action has grasped the demonstrative concept and is destined to revolutionise the fencing industry's profile, and the way Exhibitors do business at a Field Day event.

Event objectives include lifting the profile of the fencing industry as a standalone industry within the NZ Agricultural sector, the lifestyle property market, and abroad. FIA is quite unique in the way it is structured and provides an ideal platform from which to showcase fencing industry machinery, material and products.

A 1.2 ha area has been booked under the Fencing in Action Banner. The aim is to bring fencing related Exhibitors, with core product categories, which relate to fence line installation together into one area while distributing them into a demonstrative working environment, promoting industry best practice.

Four Fencing Contractors (one for each area) with high skill levels and excellent communication ability have been selected as Demonstrators. Within each Demonstration Area, fence lines of approximately 10 - 15 metres will be erected during the event. Exhibitors have been invited according to strict product category guidelines, with one exhibitor per product category being allocated to the appropriate Demonstration area fence line types. Each allocated Exhibitor will have their product being demonstrated during installation and will also have a display stand within the Demonstration area.

There is an alley way for Tractors and post drivers to show themselves in a working situation.

There are also static display sites for Exhibitors who want to show their products. While Exhibitors in static sites are most likely to still portray their product in a working situation they will not be part of the Demonstrators area.

Wiremark® has come on board as a Founding Partner and Sole Sponsor for this event. It is indeed an honour to have such an iconic New Zealand brand supporting this event. Sponsorship includes the Wiremark® marquee which will serve as a focal point and hospitality area. The Fencing Contractors Association of New Zealand (FCANZ) is manning the hospitality aspect during the event. The focus is facilitating an interactive environment which provokes discussion and networking. It's an ideal setting for Exhibitors to not only sell, but promote branding and getting to know your customer face to face.

Pre registration for Attendees are being sent out in November offering gate admittance, a entry to a daily prize draw, an exhibitor programme and post event Industry Reference Book. FIA is working in association with FCANZ to direct mail out pre registration brochures to Fencing Contractors and their staff. These brochures will also be supplied to Retailers for countertop display and Exhibitors are also spreading the word.

An exhibitor programme is available for Fencing in Action. A copy is included in the pre registration packs and can also be purchased on the day.

An Industry reference handbook is being compiled after the event which will show the machinery, products, materials used and installation techniques will be documented.

FIA represents a way forward as to how business is conducted at a field day and creates a united front for the fencing industry. In recognition FIA is supplying a logo to participating Exhibitors which is aimed at reflecting this support and 2011 Exhibitors are provided unrestricted use of this logo. Fencing in Action Founding Exhibitor

FIA welcomes any queries you may have and looks forward to seeing you in person February 10th or 11th and at our Wiremark Industry Dinner on the Thursday night.

Demonstrator Profiles

The following Fencing Demonstrators have been confirmed. Given the many excellent fencers available, Demonstrators were not only selected for their high skill levels, but also for their communication skills and approachability. The aim is not only to portray industry best practice fencing techniques, but also to encourage discussion on techniques amongst the fencers attending.

Please note Demonstrators are not enlisted to endorse machinery, materials or product, but rather show it's usage in a working environment.

There will be a direct one on one briefing time allocated on Thursday morning 7.30 to 9 am, to discuss products being used in each area, with the Demonstrators from that area.

Demonstration Area 1 – Post, wire and Batten.

Paul Van Beers.

Paul first started fencing in the 1980's and was taught by Joe Corlett from Taranaki. Paul has fenced in a number of Countries including the USA, Australia and China. To say Paul is well known in fencing competition circles is an obvious understatement, but we cannot overstate enough his eye for detail. Paul currently farms in Porangahau, Hawkes Bay on Te Manga Station, with wife Wendy and family. After an 8 year absence from contract fencing Paul is starting up in business again with son Jason.

Demonstration Area 2 – Post and Rail.

Rob Best.

Rob contract fences in the wider Pukekohe area of South Auckland and is highly regarded for his equestrian work. Rob first started fencing with Charlie Lofroth doing handwork and went on to learn from Nick Liefting, who also inspired Rob's progression. Rob has both competed and judged in fencing competitions. Rob has also turned his hand at inventing products for the fence line.

Demonstration Area 3 – Electrics.

Simon Fuller.

Simon operates a contracting business in the Waikato and covers a wide range of fencing types from dairy through to lifestyle and equestrian. Simon first got a taste of fencing while enrolled in the Wairarapa Cadet training farm. One invaluable word of advice Simon received in those early years was to "have a good look at the construction of the fences you pulled down". Simon has carried out NZQA accessing and AG ITO training.

Demonstration Area 4 – Netting.

Owen Peterson.

Owen started fencing fulltime in 1995. He previously combined shearing with fencing for around a dozen years. Jack Kimberley in Taumarunui initially taught Owen and Owen went on to specialise in hill country hand work, covering the wider Taumarunui area down to Raetihi. Owen is currently fencing for Jim Bull Farms in Hunterville. Owen judges with wife Kim at competitions, having competed and excelled in them for a number of years.

Fencing in Action (FIA) would to thank these Demonstrators in advance for their enthusiastic support of the event.

The purpose of the inclusion of Fencers demonstrating industry best practice is designed to showcase the various machinery, materials and products that make up the five various fence line types.
